October’s Top 13: Halloween Hits

October is upon us which marks the official start of spooky season. Be it with tense thrillers, classic scream-fests, or lighthearted family fun with a creepy twist, there’s no shortage of films to satisfy every movie lover’s craving. Here are some of our top recs to enjoy this month.

Dava’s Picks: Founder and Chief Creative Officer 

•  I’m not one for horror or high stress in my movie watching, so my Halloween favs are slightly off the true Halloween genre. Coco tops the list for the story, beautiful design, and good music. I also love Rocky Horror Picture Show, classic camp over-the-top goodness. 

Andre’s Picks: Associate Creative Director 

• Why only pick one when you can have a whole series?!?! The Cornetto Trilogy is perfect for your October vibes starting with Shaun of the Dead, followed by Hot Fuzz and finishing with The World’s End. Directed by Edgar Wright, written by Simon Pegg who also co-stars with Nick Frost. 

Haley’s Picks: Creative Project Manager

• My staple movie every Halloween without fault is Practical Magic. It is an absolute classic and never gets old! And who doesn’t love a coven of witches?! If you are looking for something a little more intense and thrilling, Talk To Me will keep you on the edge of your seat while hiding under a blanket.

Caity’s Picks: Creative Project Manager

• One of the most iconic movies, Halloween has stood the test of time with more than 10 sequels. If you’re looking for a good jumpscare, you can’t go wrong with the classic villain of Michael Meyers.
  

Suzanne’s Picks: Operations Leader

• Films that get me in the spirit of Halloween are zany ones from my youth. Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice is full of offbeat performances, wonderful visuals and a superb cast led by Michael Keaton. Another is Hocus Pocus,  a timeless classic and perfect combination of minor scares, great laughs, and some killer costumes.

• Looking for a good horror movie? Hereditary is my go-to recommendation. It’s got all the good stuff: killer psychological scares, top-notch acting, stunning cinematography, and a story that’ll give you the creeps for days.

• Get ready for a spine-chilling Halloween night with A Quiet Place, a gripping thriller where silence is the key to survival against terrifying creatures!
  

Xiaoxiao’s Picks: Junior Designer 

• A spooky family Halloween classic, Corpse Bride is a stop-motion animated spectacle. One striking element of the movie is the color scheme. In the living world, there is no bright color, making a near b/w appearance. The story is also well-written with a great score.

Sol’s Picks: Junior Designer 

• Halloween is the perfect time to rewatch some of the classics. If you’re looking for something to watch on a cozy night in, I highly recommend Casper for a heartwarming and nostalgic evening. If horror classics are your thing, consider Sinister, a chilling and suspenseful film that’s scary without all the gore.
